The American Vaudeville Museum, near Albuquerque, NM, is no longer a place to visit. Frank Cullen and Donald McNeilly founded it in Edgewood in 1986 to hold vaudeville history and memorabilia; its collection now belongs to the University of Arizona, with material also online. For Route 66 travellers it is a footnote to Edgewood's past rather than a stop along the road.
What is American Vaudeville Museum?
Today, a collection rather than a building. Vaudeville, the live variety shows that once filled American theaters, was its whole subject. It also put out a quarterly magazine, Vaudeville Times, from 1998 to 2008, and its virtual museum offers a bibliography and an index of performers.
Visiting American Vaudeville Museum: tips
There is nothing to visit in Edgewood now; the site lies about 4 miles off the old road. Wildlife West Nature Park, about 4.2 miles away, makes a real outing instead.
