Emma Jean's Holland Burger Cafe

Emma Jean's Holland Burger Cafe is a small, family-run diner in Victorville, CA, on National Trails Highway, the old Route 66. It has fed travelers and truckers since 1947 and is often called the oldest restaurant still standing in Victorville. Movie fans know its counter from Kill Bill: Vol. 2, and Guy Fieri featured it on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in 2007.

What is Emma Jean's Holland Burger Cafe?

A modest roadside cafe in a cinder-block building on North D Street, the stretch of old Route 66 that runs north out of Victorville toward Oro Grande. Truckers have long made it a regular stop.

History of Emma Jean's Holland Burger Cafe

Bob and Kate Holland built it from cinder blocks as the Holland Burger Cafe. In 1979 Richard Gentry, a cement-truck driver and longtime customer, bought it for his wife, Emma Jean, and it took her name. Their son Brian and his wife Shawna later ran it. Brian died in 2024.

A scene in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004) was filmed here, with Uma Thurman's dust-covered character asking for a glass of water at the counter. The Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives segment showed the cafe's homemade biscuits and gravy. In 2011 E Clampus Vitus placed a plaque on a monument out front, marking the cafe's long service to Route 66 travelers.

Visiting Emma Jean's Holland Burger Cafe: tips

The cafe sits right on the old road on the north side of town, an easy meal stop on the drive toward Oro Grande. Look for the plaque on the monument in front.
