Lambert 1957

Lambert 1957 is a working gas station and convenience store in Joliet, IL, at the corner of Broadway and Theodore streets, on the old Route 66 through town. Dan and Helen Lambert opened a Standard Oil station here in February 1957, and the family has run it ever since. It bills itself as the oldest continuously operating gas station on Route 66, and it makes an easy first fuel stop out of Chicago.

What is Lambert 1957?

A modern station under the Mobil brand, dressed as a tribute to its own past. A large mural on the north wall shows the Standard station as it looked in the 1950s. Inside, a wall of photographs follows the business through the decades, next to shelves of Route 66 souvenirs and the family's own coffee blend, named for the year the station opened.

History of Lambert 1957

The 1957 building is gone. In 1982 the oil company replaced it with fuel islands and a tiny pay kiosk, and in 1993, the year Dan and Helen sold the business to their sons Jim and Terry, that gave way to a convenience store. Terry Lambert remodeled and enlarged the store in 2021 and gave it the 1957 name. So the claim is about the business, which has not stopped, rather than the building.
