National Blues Museum

The National Blues Museum, on Washington Avenue in St. Louis, MO, has closed. While it operated, the nonprofit museum explored the history of the blues and the music's wide influence, mixing changing exhibits with live performances. It stood just off the old road in downtown St. Louis, about half a mile from the Gateway Arch, in a part of the city full of other sights.

What is National Blues Museum?

The museum was a nonprofit devoted to the musical history of the blues and the mark the style left on other music. It worked as both an entertainment venue and a place to learn: exhibits rotated through its galleries, live shows took place in a performance space called the Legends room at Lumiere Place, and the museum hosted private events.

For Route 66 travelers, it offered a musical side of St. Louis, a city the old road passed straight through.

Visiting National Blues Museum: tips

Because the museum has closed, there is nothing to tour here now. The area still works as a base for downtown sights: the Gateway Arch and Gateway Arch National Park are about 0.5 mile away, and the City Museum is about 0.6 mile off. There is a smokehouse restaurant about 0.1 mile from the old museum's address and a hotel about 0.1 mile away if you plan to stay the night downtown.
