Route 66 Stadium

Route 66 Stadium is the minor league ballpark in downtown Springfield, MO. It is home to the St. Louis Cardinals' Double-A team, the Springfield Cardinals through 2026 and the Ozarks Springbirds from 2027, and to the Missouri State University Bears. It opened in 2004 as Hammons Field and took its new name in April 2026, the year Route 66 turned 100. It stands about a block from St. Louis Street, part of Route 66's 1926 route into downtown.

What is Route 66 Stadium?

This is a full-size professional ballpark with close to 8,000 fixed seats and room for about 2,500 more fans in general admission areas. It is the centerpiece of Jordan Valley Park on the east side of downtown.

Two teams share it. The St. Louis Cardinals' Double-A farm team in the Texas League plays here: the Springfield Cardinals through 2026, renamed the Ozarks Springbirds from the 2027 season. Missouri State University's baseball team, the Bears, plays its home games here too.

History of Route 66 Stadium

Springfield hotel developer John Q. Hammons built the ballpark, and it opened in April 2004 as Hammons Field. Missouri State played there from the first season, and the Springfield Cardinals arrived in 2005.

In April 2026 the park was renamed Route 66 Stadium for the highway's centennial. Springfield calls itself the Birthplace of Route 66, because the number 66 was first proposed for the new highway in a 1926 telegram sent from the city. The name comes from a shared deal among the Cardinals, the City of Springfield, Missouri State, O'Reilly Auto Parts and Mercy, with each partner's name on one of five pillars at the main gate. The first Cardinals game under the new name was scheduled for May 5, 2026.
