Wonders of Wildlife Museum & Aquarium

Wonders of Wildlife Museum & Aquarium is a large nonprofit conservation attraction in Springfield, MO, about 4 miles off the old road. It sits right beside the flagship Bass Pro Shops store, and its full name honors Johnny Morris, who founded Bass Pro. Under one roof of about 350,000 square feet, it pairs a wildlife museum full of detailed habitat scenes with a big aquarium. It makes a strong all-weather stop for families.

What is Wonders of Wildlife Museum & Aquarium?

The building has two main parts. The Wildlife Museum leads visitors through galleries where mounted animals from around the globe stand in carefully built habitat scenes. Along the way are historic artifacts, artwork, films and rotating special exhibits. One highlight is a big game display from the Boone and Crockett Club, known as North American Heads and Horns.

The Aquarium holds about 1.5 million gallons of water and some 35,000 animals, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish. Its themed zones take you from a sunken shipwreck in the ocean to a Louisiana swamp, the Amazon rainforest and an Ozark forest.

History of Wonders of Wildlife Museum & Aquarium

The organization behind the attraction dates back to 2001. It was built around the idea that hunters and anglers play a central role in protecting wildlife, and the Morris name on it ties it to the Bass Pro story.

Visiting Wonders of Wildlife Museum & Aquarium: tips

Allow at least three hours; the museum and aquarium together are a lot to cover. Plan meals around it, since a full visit can run long. It is listed as wheelchair accessible. Since the Bass Pro Shops flagship is attached, you can fold a shopping stop into the same trip. A gas station, coffee and an inn are all within a block or two.

Back on the old road, the Route 66 Steak 'n Shake and Route 66 Stadium are each a little over 2 miles away, and the Rail Haven Motel is under 3.
