Magic Lamp Inn

Magic Lamp Inn is a steakhouse in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, on Foothill Boulevard, the old Route 66. Its history dates to 1955, when a fire closed the earlier restaurant on the site. Restaurateur John Clearman then rebuilt it as the Magic Lamp. Its best-known feature is the sign: an Aladdin's lamp outlined in neon, with a real gas flame burning from the spout at night.

What is Magic Lamp Inn?

The building is faced in red brick and stone under a patterned Spanish tile roof. Out front stands its sign, a neon Aladdin's lamp; where a genie would normally rise from the spout, a real gas flame burns.

The inside ignores the Arabian Nights name. Dark wood and upholstered booths give it the feel of a Bavarian-style steakhouse, and the waiting room has a round brick fireplace that becomes a fountain in the warm months.

History of Magic Lamp Inn

The building opened in 1941 as Lucy and John's. A fire closed it in 1955, and John Clearman, the restaurateur behind the North Woods Inn chain and other theme steakhouses, rebuilt the burnt shell as the Magic Lamp.

It closed in early 2023, then reopened after a renovation, with a soft opening in October 2024.
