Annenberg Space for Photography

The Annenberg Space for Photography has closed; it no longer operates as a museum. From 2009 to 2020 it showed photography in Century City, a part of Los Angeles, CA, under the Annenberg Foundation. It shut its doors in March 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and announced that June that the closure was permanent. It is listed here for its history, and nearby museums are the better bet today.

What was Annenberg Space for Photography?

This was a museum given over to photography, and it also served as an event venue. It stood in Century City and was developed and run by the Annenberg Foundation. For just over a decade it gave Los Angeles a space that focused on the photograph as its main subject, rather than as one part of a larger art museum.

History of Annenberg Space for Photography

The Annenberg Foundation opened the space in March 2009. It stayed open for eleven years. In March 2020 it closed as the COVID-19 pandemic spread, and three months later, in June 2020, the foundation announced that the museum would not reopen. The building's run as a photography museum ended there, and its doors have stayed closed to the public ever since that spring.

Visiting Annenberg Space for Photography: tips

There is no museum to visit here any more, so do not make a special trip. If you are already in the area, several nearby stops are open to the public.

Mathias Botanical Garden is about 1.6 miles off, and the Hammer Museum, an art museum affiliated with UCLA, is about 1.7 miles away. A hotel, food and EV charging are all close by.

Before driving over, check the other museums' own websites for current opening days. This listing stays on the map only as a record of a museum that once stood here.
