Cactus Inn
- Historic hotel
- In McLean, Texas
- On Route 66
The Cactus Inn is a one-story motor court in McLean, TX, at the corner where Pine Street meets the old Route 66 alignment on the west end of town. It opened in 1956 as the West Wind Motel, and its cactus-shaped neon sign is the original. McLean had six motels in Route 66's best years; this is the one still taking guests, and it also offers RV parking.
What is Cactus Inn?
Ten rooms in a brick row behind a gravel forecourt, with cactus plantings under the sign and a mural. The motel says the present owner took over in 2020 and refurbished all ten rooms, and in June 2026 the Texas Old Route 66 Association gave it a small grant for an outdoor gathering area.
Visiting Cactus Inn: tips
Worth a photo of the sign even if you are not staying. The restored 1929 Phillips 66 station is about a third of a mile east along 1st Street, with the Devil's Rope museum beyond it.
