- In McLean, Texas
- On Route 66
This small Tudor Revival gas station in McLean, TX, was built in 1929 in the cottage style the company used so its stations would fit residential streets; the National Park Service says Phillips chose McLean for its first Texas station, though a station in Turkey, Texas, that opened in 1928 also claims the title. It sold fuel for about five decades, closed in 1977 and was restored in 1992 by the Old Route 66 Association of Texas. It stands on the old Route 66 alignment through town, a short walk from the Devil's Rope museum.
What is Phillips 66 Service Station?
A brick cottage with shutters and an outside chimney, two period pumps, a vintage red fuel truck parked beside it and the shield-shaped Phillips 66 sign. It is part of the McLean Commercial Historic District, listed on the National Register in 2004.
