Pioneer West Museum
The Pioneer West Museum is Shamrock's local-history museum, in what was the Reynolds Hotel in Shamrock, TX, about three-quarters of a mile south of Route 66 and the U-Drop Inn. Attorney Marion Reynolds began the hotel in 1928 and opened it in 1929 as a stopping place for traveling salesmen. Residents bought the empty building in 1975 and opened the museum in 1978; today it fills about 25 rooms.
What is Pioneer West Museum?
A two-story hotel whose rooms now hold pioneer settlers' belongings and arrowheads, old doctor's and dentist's equipment, a Wheeler County military room, a display on Fort Elliott and the Comanche leader Quanah Parker, and a 'Prairie to the Moon' space room with a marker for Apollo astronaut Alan Bean, a Wheeler County native. The restored Magnolia gas station next door and a 1920s law office belong to the museum too.
