Grants-Milan Flight Service Station, New Mexico

This 1953 Grants-Milan Flight Service Station near Grants, NM, was built to support the Grants-Milan Municipal Airport. It earned a National Register listing in 2015 and became part of Western New Mexico's Aviation Heritage Museum, which remembers the pilots on the Los Angeles–Amarillo run of an early national airway. For Route 66 travellers it offers a look at how travel through the region took to the air.

What is Grants-Milan Flight Service Station?

A small airport building from the early 1950s. Flight service stations gave pilots information such as weather and routes, and this one was put up to serve the municipal airport shared by Grants and Milan. It is also listed on the New Mexico State Register of Cultural Properties. When it was added to the national list in 2015, it formed part of the aviation heritage museum on the same site.

History of Grants-Milan Flight Service Station

The museum it belongs to honors early pilots on the Midcontinental Airway's Los Angeles–Amarillo stretch, a route across much of the same country Route 66 covers by road.
