The Hilltop Lodge in Albuquerque, NM, is gone. It began in 1941 as a three-unit lodging on Central Avenue, the old Route 66, and grew to 12 units in 1946, when E. H. Stopple owned it. It won state and National Register listings in 1997 and 1998, but the city shut it down as a nuisance property and it was demolished in 2003. The last traces, neon sign included, were cleared around 2017.
What is Hilltop Lodge?
It was a single-story L of 12 rooms; the front section, holding the office and the manager's home, had a stepped parapet and a little porch. The final clearing made room for Yucca Drive to be rerouted as part of Albuquerque Rapid Transit work.
Visiting Hilltop Lodge: tips
