Raging Waters

Raging Waters, a water theme park, sits in San Dimas, CA, about 3.7 miles off the old road. It opened in 1983 and ranks as California's biggest water park. Lucky Strike Entertainment owns and runs it. For families who have just crossed the Mojave on Route 66, a day of slides and pools can be a welcome reward before the final push to the Pacific.

What is Raging Waters?

This is a full-size water park rather than a quick roadside attraction, so plan it as a day out on its own. The park is part of a group of water parks that share the Raging Waters name, and the San Dimas site is sometimes called Raging Waters Los Angeles. The grounds are listed as wheelchair accessible.

Visiting Raging Waters: tips

Check the park's website for its season, tickets and rules before you go, since water parks keep their own calendars. Bring sunscreen, towels and a change of clothes for the car, and arrive early in the day to make the most of it.

If part of the group would rather stay dry, San Dimas has some history close by. The San Dimas Hotel, built in 1887, is about 2 miles away, as is Elephant Hill, a patch of open space. The Phillips Mansion is about 1.8 miles off.
