Roadrunner Lodge

The Roadrunner Lodge is a restored Route 66 motel in Tucumcari, NM, right on the old road through town. It joins two older properties: a 1947 motor court with garages beside each room and a two-story 1964 motel with a pool. After years standing empty, the buildings came back to life from 2014 under the Roadrunner name and the Blue Swallow Motel stands just down the street.

What is Roadrunner Lodge?

The west side is the older half, a single-story motor court whose rooms each had a garage. The east side is a mid-century two-story building with a swimming pool. Together they line Tucumcari Boulevard, the old Route 66.

History of Roadrunner Lodge

The motor court opened in 1947 as La Plaza Court, with 15 rooms. In 1964 Agnes Leatherwood built the two-story motel next door, Leatherwood Manor. The two were joined in 1985, changed names several times and later sat abandoned. In 2014 a new owner bought the property and spent years restoring it, reopening it as the Roadrunner Lodge.

Visiting Roadrunner Lodge: tips

It is a working motel, so respect guests when taking pictures. The Blue Swallow Motel stands about 0.1 miles away; come back after dark to see its neon lit. Tucumcari is a natural overnight stop between Amarillo and Albuquerque.
