Bear Ridge is an Ozark ridge in Pulaski County, MO, southwest of Rolla in the Ozark hills. It takes its name from the black bears that lived in the thick oak-hickory forest when settlers first arrived. Along Route 17 the name has spread to a local road, Bear Ridge Drive, and to a housing subdivision. It is about 6 miles off Route 66, an easy scenic detour from Waynesville.
What is Bear Ridge?
This is a natural landform, not a park with facilities. Oddly, the federal place-name database lists its exact position as unknown, so the area along Route 17 that carries the name is the best guide.
Visiting Bear Ridge: tips
Enjoy it as a wooded drive and stay on public roads, since the named area includes homes. The Old Stagecoach Stop is under 6 miles away, Uranus Missouri about 9, and the Hooker site under 11.
