Onondaga Cave State Park

Onondaga Cave State Park sits on the Meramec River in Leasburg, MO, about 5 miles off the old road and roughly 5 miles southeast of the village. Set up in 1982, it combines guided cave tours with river and woodland fun: camping, fishing, hiking, picnics and swimming. For Route 66 travellers who want a second cave after Meramec Caverns, or simply a relaxed day outdoors, it is a good choice.

What is Onondaga Cave State Park?

The park centers on its show cave, which visitors see on cave tours. Above ground, the Meramec River shapes the rest of the day, with spots to fish and swim, trails for a walk and places to spread out a picnic. A campground inside the park makes it easy to stay overnight.

Restrooms and parking are on site, there is wheelchair access, and the park is well suited to children.

Visiting Onondaga Cave State Park: tips

Plan on at least half a day if you want a cave tour plus time by the river, and longer if you are camping. A grill for a meal is about 0.7 miles away. The site of the old town of Avery is about 2.9 miles off, Blue Springs Creek Conservation Area about 5 miles, and the ghost town site of Vilander about 5.9 miles.
