Aztec Motel

The Aztec Motel is a small, one-story motel in Seligman, AZ, on Chino Street, the town's stretch of old Route 66. Its core is a guest house from 1915, and the motel wing was built around it in the 1950s. New owners renovated it and reopened it in 2021 as The Aztec Motel & Creative Space. It sits directly across the street from Delgadillo's Snow Cap.

What is Aztec Motel?

The Aztec is a U-shaped, one-story motel with the old guest house at its center. That house is now the Creative Space, a lounge and meeting room for guests. The wing around it holds about eight rooms, including a suite, and there is a gift shop.

History of Aztec Motel

The property began as a guest house built in 1915. Route 66 came along Chino Street after a 1933 realignment, and in the 1950s the property was enlarged into a motel, with the wing added around the original house. Over the years it also held a Mexican restaurant, then shops, a beauty salon and a private home.

Sebastiaan de Boorder, a hospitality manager from the Netherlands, and his wife Anna Marie Gonzales bought and renovated it, reopening in 2021 as The Aztec Motel & Creative Space.

Visiting Aztec Motel: tips

The motel sits on Chino Street, Seligman's main street and the old Route 66, so its tall roadside sign makes an easy photo stop. Delgadillo's Snow Cap is directly across the street. With only about eight rooms, booking ahead makes sense if you want to spend the night here.
