Seligman Commercial Historic District, Arizona

The Seligman Commercial Historic District is the old business strip of Seligman, AZ, lined along Route 66. Seligman is a small community on the northern edge of Yavapai County, home to 446 people at the 2020 census, and it is one of the recognized stops on the historic highway. The district's National Register listing covers the town's commercial core, which is why so many Route 66 drivers slow down here.

What is Seligman Commercial Historic District?

This is a historic district rather than a single landmark: a stretch of the town's commercial buildings recognized together on the National Register. The listing treats the main street as a whole, so the value is in walking it end to end.

The town also has a name in the Havasupai language, Thavgyalyal, a reminder that people lived in this country long before the highway.

Visiting Seligman Commercial Historic District: tips

The district sits right on the old road, so there is nothing to detour for; park once and walk. Plan on 30 minutes to an hour. Food and a motel are within about a tenth of a mile, and fuel is a little over half a mile away.

Delgadillo's Snow Cap Drive-In, a contributing building in the district, is about a tenth of a mile from its center and is the natural place to start or finish the walk.
