Weatherford Hotel

The Weatherford Hotel stands in downtown Flagstaff, AZ, on North Leroux Street, just one block north of Route 66. John W. Weatherford opened it in 1897, which makes it older than the highway itself. It is listed on the National Register and still works as a hotel, so travellers can stay in a piece of Flagstaff history within easy walking distance of the rest of downtown.

What is Weatherford Hotel?

This is a working hotel in the heart of Flagstaff's historic downtown. It stands at 23 North Leroux Street, a block off the old road, surrounded by other historic buildings. The hotel carries the name of its founder and has been part of downtown for more than a century.

Because it is a hotel rather than a museum, the best way to experience it is as a guest, or by stopping in at one of the nearby cafes before or after a walk around the neighborhood.

History of Weatherford Hotel

John W. Weatherford established the hotel in 1897, some three decades before Route 66 was created in 1926. By the time the highway arrived, the hotel was already a fixture of the town. Its listing on the National Register recognizes it as one of Flagstaff's important historic buildings, and it has kept its founder's name ever since.

Visiting Weatherford Hotel: tips

The hotel is about a tenth of a mile off Route 66, and parking is available on site. If you are not staying, you can still admire the building from the sidewalk and take in the street around it. A cafe is about a tenth of a mile away.

The Railroad Addition Historic District, Hotel Monte Vista and The Ice House are all about a tenth of a mile off, so an easy downtown walking loop takes in all four. Allow an hour or so for the stroll, with time for a coffee.
