The Cassill Place Historic District, a small residential enclave in Carthage, MO, sits a few blocks from the Route 66 corridor. It holds just eight historic houses, built from about 1890 to 1925 in Late Victorian and Craftsman bungalow styles. Every building here is a home, so this is a purely residential stop. It joined the National Register in 1986 and is easy to add to a Carthage stop.
What is Cassill Place Historic District?
Each of the eight houses carries a name in the historic record. The oldest, from around 1890, are the former Herrin Home, the Fenimore House and the Meister House; the former Eugene O'Keefe House followed in about 1893. The Macoubrie House dates to 1903. From the 1910s come the A. H. McFadden House (1914) and the Dennison House (about 1914), and a second McFadden House was built around 1925.
Seen together, the homes span the change from Late Victorian design to the Craftsman bungalow.
