The museum fills a former armory on Sahoma Lake Road, at the point where that road meets Route 66. Its landmark stands in front: a 66-foot replica gas pump that the museum calls the world's tallest. It is a display piece and does not sell fuel.

Many of the cars inside are on loan from their owners, and the museum rotates them, so the line-up changes over time. The museum also offers rides in 1922 vintage cars from May through September, and Model T driving sessions.

History of Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum

The museum began as the Tulsa Auto Museum project and took the name Heart of Route 66 when it moved into the armory in Sapulpa. It opened in 2016.

Later it won $1.08 million from Oklahoma's Route 66 Revitalization Grant program for an addition of 5,000 square feet, and construction began in 2026. The museum says the addition is due to open in November 2026.
