History of Mr. D'z Route 66 Diner
The building opened in 1939 as the Kingman Cafe and a Shell gas station. Father and son Roy and Scott Dunton, local car-business owners, later remade it as a 1950s-style diner with family recipes. Around 2000 they leased it to Armando and Michelle Jimenez, a couple from Las Vegas, who have run it since.
Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King stopped here on their 2006 cross-country road trip for The Oprah Winfrey Show. In May 2025 the diner received a $10,000 Route 66 Legacy Business Grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, for paint and a centennial mural.
