Kingman Commercial Historic District, Arizona

The Kingman Commercial Historic District covers two blocks of Andy Devine Avenue in Kingman, AZ, a tenth of a mile off the old road's path through town. On just 4.5 acres it packs in old hotels, a Santa Fe railroad depot and early commercial buildings in several styles. Listed on the National Register in 1986, it is a good place in Kingman to see what the town looked like in its railroad and highway years.

What is Kingman Commercial Historic District?

Seven contributing properties make up the district, spread over two blocks of Andy Devine Avenue. Two of them are old hotels, the Beale and the Brunswick. Others include the Lovin Building from 1906, a depot built for the AT&SF railroad, the Luthy Block and even an archeological site. Styles vary from Queen Anne to Mission/Spanish Revival to Moderne, and W. Royal Lescher was among the designers.

History of Kingman Commercial Historic District

The Luthy Block shows how buildings here changed with the times. It began as a plain adobe structure, grew in 1908 with a brick addition and later gained Mission Revival parapets. Around 1935 those parapets were updated again with Moderne details. The whole district went onto the National Register in 1986.
