What is Palace Hotel?
A two-story building under a hipped roof, built in 1912 as a hotel. Its style, Richardsonian Romanesque, takes its name from the American architect H. H. Richardson. In Gallup this building is the only example of it, which makes it one of a kind in town.
Besides its own National Register listing from 1988, it appears on the New Mexico state register of cultural properties and counts as a contributing building in the Gallup Commercial Historic District.
Visiting Palace Hotel: tips
Enjoy it from the public sidewalk and respect the property. The Rex Hotel is practically next door, and the Grand Hotel is about 0.1 miles away, so a short stroll takes in three early hotels in a row. Allow ten or fifteen minutes, longer if you continue through the rest of the historic district.
