Weezy's Route 66 Bar & Grill

Weezy's Route 66 Bar & Grill is a roadhouse-style bar and grill in Hamel, IL, on the original two-lane US 66 through the village. Its patterned brick building opened in the late 1930s as the Tourist Haven, built to feed Route 66 travelers and the drivers of a local car-hauling firm. The place has worn several names since, and signs of earlier ones hang inside. As Scotty's, it joined the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame in 2006.

What is Weezy's Route 66 Bar & Grill?

The restaurant sits near the Illinois 140 crossing in the middle of Hamel. Inside, the look is classic diner: a black-and-white checkered floor, red vinyl booths, chrome tables and old photos, with the old Tourist Haven sign in the dining room. The menu is known for charbroiled burgers, homemade pies and breakfasts such as biscuits and gravy.

History of Weezy's Route 66 Bar & Grill

George Cassens, whose family's car-hauling company got its start in Hamel in 1931, opened the restaurant. The name Tourist Haven came out of a public naming contest.

Over the decades the building also ran as the Village Inn, Earnie's and Scotty's Route 66 Bar and Grill. The owners of Scotty's sold it in 2009, and that year it became Weezy's.
