It stands in a short row of historic storefronts about a mile and a half off the old road, and it is best enjoyed as part of a stroll through downtown Chandler.

What is Clapp-Cunningham Building?

The building is a two-story commercial block in the Late Victorian style, the decorative look common on Main Street buildings around 1900.

Its builder came from outside Oklahoma: L. W. Clapp was a Kansas politician based in Wichita. The building earned National Register listing on April 5, 1984, the same day as several of its downtown neighbors, including the St. Cloud Hotel, the Boston Store, the Chandler Bookstore and the Mascho Building. Together they give a good picture of what the town's business district looked like more than a century ago.
