The Flynt Building in Chandler, OK, is a commercial building from 1902, put up for a couple, William A. and Laura Flynt, who rented the space to a grocer. In 1906 new owners turned it into a hardware store. It joined the National Register in 2007, later than its neighbors, and stands among Chandler's historic downtown buildings about a mile and a half off the old road.
What is Flynt Building?
This is an early 1900s storefront. William and Laura Flynt owned it, but they did not run the business themselves; they rented the space to a grocer.
Its use changed after only a few years. When F. Murphy and C. O. Cardwell bought the building in 1906, it became a hardware store, selling tools and building supplies instead of groceries.
History of Flynt Building
The building went up in 1902 and changed hands in 1906. It reached the National Register on June 5, 2007, more than two decades after the nearby Boston Store, Chandler Bookstore and Mascho Building were listed together in 1984.
Visiting Flynt Building: tips
It is less than a mile off the old road. Its current use is not known, so view it from the sidewalk. The Mascho Building and Public Privy, the Chandler Bookstore and the Boston Store are each about 0.3 miles away, so the group is easy to see on foot in half an hour.
