William I. and Magdalen M. Goff House

Known simply as the Goff House, the William I. and Magdalen M. Goff House is a two-story home in El Reno, OK, built in 1901, before Oklahoma became a state. Its round tower and wraparound porch make it one of the town's landmarks, and its outside has changed very little in more than a century. It sits a short walk from the old road and El Reno's restored Route 66 gas stations.

What is William I. and Magdalen M. Goff House?

The house mixes two popular turn-of-the-century styles. Its overall form follows Colonial Revival design, while the circular tower and the porch that wraps around the front are features borrowed from the Queen Anne style. The combination gives it a lively outline that stands out on the street.

What makes it notable is how intact it is. Very few changes have been made to the exterior since it was built, so the view from the sidewalk is close to what El Reno residents saw in the early 1900s.

History of William I. and Magdalen M. Goff House

The Goffs built the house in 1901, when El Reno was still part of Oklahoma Territory, several years before statehood. Over time it became a recognized landmark in the city. In 1988 it earned a National Register listing, a federal honor for buildings of lasting local or national importance.

The house predates Route 66 by a quarter of a century, a reminder that El Reno was an established town long before the highway brought cross-country traffic through its streets.
