In Kingman, AZ, about a tenth of a mile off the old road, the Duff T. Brown House stands as a Craftsman bungalow in the town's cluster of listed historic houses. A 1985 survey of 63 historic Kingman sites reviewed it, and its National Register listing followed in 1986. The record says little more, but it is a pleasant stop on a Route 66 walk through the older blocks near downtown.
What is Duff T. Brown House?
Craftsman bungalows are low, sensible houses, usually with broad porches, overhanging eaves and simple woodwork. They spread across American towns in the early 1900s, and Kingman has a good number of them, several of which share this house's National Register status.
The listing does not record who Duff T. Brown was or when the house was built, so the house is best enjoyed as a solid example of the style and as one piece of a neighborhood that earned its recognition as a group.
Visiting Duff T. Brown House: tips
This is a private residence. View it from the street or the public sidewalk and respect the owners' privacy; a few minutes is enough.
The George R. Kayser House is right next door, and the Lefever House and the Ross H. Blakely House are each about a tenth of a mile away. Put them together for a short, flat walk of 20 minutes or so.
