Ross E. Householder House

The Ross E. Householder House is a Craftsman bungalow in Kingman, AZ, about a tenth of a mile off the old road. It was built between 1916 and 1923 by R. E. Householder, a mining engineer who ran his own firm, served as Mohave County Engineer in the 1930s and sat in the Arizona Legislature. It is one of several listed homes in a compact Kingman neighborhood that Route 66 travelers can walk in minutes.

What is Ross E. Householder House?

The house is a Bungalow/Craftsman design, the practical, low-slung style that spread across American towns in the 1910s and 1920s. Construction stretched over several years, from 1916 to 1923.

It was one of the homes reviewed in a 1985 survey of 63 historic sites around Kingman, which led to its National Register listing.

History of Ross E. Householder House

Householder was a mining engineer by training. From 1919 to 1940 he ran his own civil and mining engineering business, and during the 1930s he held the job of Mohave County Engineer. He also served in the Arizona Legislature, which makes this house a small window into the lives of the people who helped run the county in its early decades.
