Fifth and Main Historic District

Joplin's Fifth and Main Historic District packs just three joined early 20th-century buildings on the northeast corner where Main Street meets Fifth Street in Joplin, MO. They are the Christman Building and its Annex plus the Paramount Building. The corner sits close to the Route 66 corridor in the middle of Joplin's walkable downtown, so it takes only a few minutes to add to a stroll.

What is Fifth and Main Historic District?

Rather than a whole neighborhood, this district is a single row of connected structures. The two Christman buildings and the Paramount Building stand side by side on the corner, so from across the street they read almost as one block. All three date from the early 1900s, which makes the corner a good photo of downtown Joplin's older commercial fabric.

History of Fifth and Main Historic District

The trio joined the National Register as its own small district in 2006. Two years later, in 2008, it was folded into the much larger Joplin Downtown Historic District that now surrounds it.
