Giganticus Headicus is a roughly 14-foot green head beside old Route 66 northeast of Kingman, built around 2003 by local artist Gregg Arnold. It stands near Antares, a tiny hamlet that began as a railroad siding, on the site of a former motel and trailer court. A small souvenir shop sits beside it. The head is a quick, free photo stop on the long drive between Kingman and Seligman.
What is Giganticus Headicus?
A large tiki-style head painted green and set beside the road. Sources disagree about what it is made of, so that is left open. It is one of several pieces by Gregg Arnold, who owns the land, and a 16-foot metal figure called Guardian of Route 66 was unveiled here in November 2021.
History of Giganticus Headicus
The head stands where the Ranchero Motel once stood beside the westbound lane, later a trailer court. Arnold renovated an A-frame building on the lot during 2020 and opened it to visitors in 2021 as a visitor center and shop.
Visiting Giganticus Headicus: tips
The sculpture is outdoors and visible from the road, so it needs only a few minutes. The shop's hours are unclear, so do not plan around going inside. The stop is about 21 miles northeast of Kingman, on the stretch toward Seligman.
