Hackberry, Arizona

Hackberry is a small community on Arizona State Route 66, the former U.S. 66, about 28 miles northeast of Kingman in Mohave County. It is often counted as a ghost town, yet about a hundred people still live here. For Route 66 drivers it is a quiet slow-down on a long, open stretch of the old road, and a reminder of how small some highway towns have become.

What is Hackberry?

Officially, Hackberry is a census-designated place with no town government of its own. It once had its own post office. By 2015 the Postal Service was delivering to just 68 homes here under ZIP code 86411, and the 2020 census counted 103 residents.

Visiting Hackberry: tips

The community sits right on the old road, so it is an easy slow-down between Peach Springs and Kingman. People still live here, so stay on public roads and respect private property. The Peacock Mountains are about 4.6 miles away.
