The Peacock Mountains are a narrow range near Kingman, AZ, stretching about 26 miles as a northern offshoot of the larger Hualapai Mountains. They lie about 5 miles off the old road, on the stretch of Route 66 near the Hackberry ghost town. There is no visitor site here; the range is part of the open desert scenery that makes this section of the drive so wide and quiet.
What is Peacock Mountains?
The range is a small sub-range that extends north from the northeast corner of the Hualapai Mountains. The Hualapai Valley borders it on the northwest side. To the east rise the Cottonwood Cliffs, shaped by movement along the Aquarius Fault.
Visiting Peacock Mountains: tips
Enjoy the mountains from the car or from a safe pull-off; there are no facilities. Hackberry, about 4.6 miles away, makes an easy pairing. Allow a few minutes for photos.
