Horsethief Canyon is the upper part of Summit Valley in Hesperia, CA, about 7 miles off the old road. Its head lies a short way east of the Cajon Pass summit at about 3,800 feet and descends to around 3,123 feet at its mouth. State Routes 138 and 173 both pass through it. For Route 66 drivers near Cajon Pass, it is part of the high-desert scenery on the way toward the mountains.

Within San Bernardino County, the canyon makes up the top end of Summit Valley. It drops several hundred feet from head to mouth. A separate canyon with the same name lies in San Diego County.
