Meadow Gold sign

The Meadow Gold sign in Tulsa, OK, is a dairy brand sign on 11th Street, the city's stretch of Route 66. The Claude Neon company built it in 1934 for the Meadow Gold brand of the Beatrice dairy. When the building it first stood on was demolished in 2004, the Tulsa Foundation for Architecture saved it. Today it stands on an open brick pavilion at 11th Street and Quaker Avenue.

What is Meadow Gold sign?

The sign has a structure of its own: an open brick pavilion at the corner of 11th Street and Quaker Avenue, with plaques inside that tell its history. Since August 2024 it has had company. Meadow Gold Mack, a 20-foot Muffler Man from the 1960s that came from Crystal Lake, Illinois, stands close by.

History of Meadow Gold sign

The Claude Neon company made the sign in 1934 for Meadow Gold, a brand of the Beatrice dairy. Its first home was a building at 11th Street and Lewis Avenue. In 2004 that building was sold and demolished, and the Tulsa Foundation for Architecture stepped in to save the sign. Meadow Gold Mack was installed close by in August 2024.

Visiting Meadow Gold sign: tips

The sign is on 11th Street itself, so it is no detour on Route 66 through Tulsa. It is an outdoor stop: step into the pavilion to read the plaques, then walk over to Meadow Gold Mack, close by on the same street.

Buck Atom's Cosmic Curios on 66, a gift shop with a 21-foot space cowboy and a 19-foot space cowgirl out front, is nearby on the same street. Mother Road Market, a food hall at 11th Street and Lewis Avenue, is under a mile east.
