Mid America Adventure

Mid America Adventure is a large amusement park in Eureka, MO, less than a mile off the old road. Six Flags opened it in 1971, first calling it Six Flags Over Mid-America; later it ran as Six Flags St. Louis. It was sold in 2026 and now operates as Mid America Adventure. For Route 66 families passing through the St. Louis suburbs, it is the region's big day of rides.

What is Mid America Adventure?

This is a full-size seasonal theme park with rides and themed areas. Restrooms are on site, and there is wheelchair access. A hotel, a coffee stop and fuel are all within about half a mile, which helps if you want to arrive early or stay the night.

The park is a suburban one, set in Eureka on the western edge of the St. Louis area, which keeps it within easy reach of the old road. In the fall it runs Fright Fest, a Halloween event.

History of Mid America Adventure

Angus G. Wynne, who founded Six Flags, came up with the idea for a Missouri park in the 1960s. The company's first two parks had been designed by architect Randall Duell, but he was occupied with AstroWorld at the time, so Six Flags planned this one in-house. The gates first opened in June 1971.

The park has changed a great deal since. A 1990s overhaul added two areas and swapped out or renamed every one of the six original areas. In 2026 EPR Properties bought the park and brought in Enchanted Parks to run it, and the Six Flags name gave way to Mid America Adventure.

Visiting Mid America Adventure: tips

Treat it as a full-day stop rather than a quick break, and check the season before you go, since the park does not run year-round. If you want a calmer contrast afterward, Allenton Access on the Meramec River is about 2.8 miles away, and the historic Red Cedar Inn is about 3.2 miles off.
