On the Meramec River about a mile east of Eureka, MO, Route 66 State Park offers 424 acres of public recreation land. It stands where the town of Times Beach once was. Trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding, picnic areas and a boat ramp make it an easy stop for stretching your legs. As the name says, it honors the old road.

The park stretches along the Meramec River and covers 424 acres. Its trails are shared by hikers, cyclists and riders on horseback, and picnic spots and a boat ramp round out the facilities.
The ground has a past. This was once the town of Times Beach, which no longer exists; its site is now open parkland.
History of Route 66 State Park
Missouri set the park aside in 1997 and named it for Route 66. The old town of Times Beach, which stood here before, is listed separately as a ghost town about 0.7 miles away.
Visiting Route 66 State Park: tips
The park is less than a mile off the old road. Allow an hour for a picnic or a short walk, more for a ride along the trails.
The Endangered Wolf Center, which runs tours by reservation, is about 2.2 miles away, and Forest 44 Conservation Area about 3.3 miles off.
