In Texola, OK, close to the Texas line, the Magnolia Service Station, a small house-style gas station, stands on old Route 66. Opened around 1930 by a Magnolia Petroleum Company affiliate, it was among the westernmost stations in Oklahoma and one of the first for eastbound drivers entering the state. It is now on the National Register and sits less than a mile off the main route line.
What is Magnolia Service Station?
The main building is a 'house' style station, designed to look like a small home. Oil companies used this look so stations would blend into residential streets rather than stand out as commercial buildings.
History of Magnolia Service Station
The station opened around 1930. Its location at the western edge of Oklahoma made it a natural first stop for eastbound travelers needing fuel and car service after crossing from Texas, and a last chance for those heading west. It was listed on the National Register on February 23, 1995.
