Tulsa Botanic Garden, Oklahoma

The Tulsa Botanic Garden in Tulsa, OK, is a 170-acre botanical garden that is still being developed, about 8 miles northwest of downtown, just over the line in Osage County. Its stated aim is to show how beautiful and how important plants and the natural world are. It lies about 5 miles off the old road, so it suits travelers who want a longer, quieter break among plants rather than a quick roadside stop.

What is Tulsa Botanic Garden?

This is a big garden in the making. At 170 acres it has room to grow for years, and work on it continues, so each visit may show new plantings or areas. The organization behind it is a nonprofit whose mission centers on plants and nature, and on helping people see why both matter for a greener, more harmonious world.

Unlike a small city park, the garden is a destination of its own, set away from downtown on the northwest side of the metro area.

Visiting Tulsa Botanic Garden: tips

The garden is about 5 miles off the old road. Give it at least an hour, more if you like to wander. Restrooms are on site, it is listed as wheelchair accessible and it is considered kid-friendly, which makes it a good leg-stretch for families.

Gilcrease Museum, with its large collection of American West art, is about 3.2 miles away. The Woody Guthrie Center is about 5.1 miles off, and the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame about 5.3 miles, both downtown.
