The Tyrell House is an 1897 cottage in Kingman, AZ, about half a mile off the old road. Thomas Tyrell, a painter by trade, built it himself and lived in it for two years. It is remembered as the first house with indoor plumbing, and a pump house still stands on the property. For Route 66 travelers it is a small window into Kingman's early years, long before the highway arrived.
What is Tyrell House?
The house is a simple vernacular cottage, built in a local way rather than to a formal style. The pump house beside it is a reminder of the plumbing that set it apart.
