In Kingman, AZ, the J. B. Wright House stands as a 1912 native-stone home about a tenth of a mile off the old road. Its neighbor is the Mohave County Courthouse, and that is fitting: Wright, an engineer and builder, helped construct the courthouse in 1914 and 1915. He kept the home until he died in 1944, and today it is a solid stop on a Route 66 walk through Kingman.
What is J. B. Wright House?
The house follows a Neo-Colonial Revival design and was built with native stone, a material that gives several of Kingman's older homes their sturdy look. Its location beside the Mohave County Courthouse puts it right in the civic heart of the old town.
History of J. B. Wright House
By trade, J. B. Wright was both a civil engineer and a builder-contractor. He built this house in 1912, and a few years later he took part in building the courthouse next door, in 1914 and 1915. He owned the home for the rest of his life, until he died in 1944. A 1985 survey of 63 historic sites around Kingman reviewed the house, and it went on to earn a National Register listing.
