- National Register of Historic Places
Built in 1893, Hubbs House is a Queen Anne home on a street corner in Kingman, AZ, about 0.2 miles off the old road. Its National Register listing goes back to 1978, earlier than most of Kingman's listed houses. Today the City of Kingman owns it, and it is used by Head Start, so Route 66 travelers should admire it from outside as part of a walk through the older blocks near downtown.
What is Hubbs House?
Queen Anne is a Victorian house style known for asymmetrical shapes, bay windows and decorative trim. This one dates from 1893, which makes it one of the older homes in Kingman's historic core, built long before the automobile age.
Its listing came early, in 1978. Later, a 1985 survey of 63 historic Kingman sites reviewed its status again and led to many of the surrounding buildings joining it on the Register.
Visiting Hubbs House: tips
The house is city property used by a Head Start program, so view it from the sidewalk and do not enter; a few minutes is enough.
The Mrs. M. P. Sargent House is about a tenth of a mile away. The Kingman Commercial Historic District and the Foster S. Dennis House are each about 0.2 miles off, so all three combine into a short walk.
