Bristow Tire Shop, Oklahoma

The Bristow Tire Shop in Bristow, OK, is a small commercial building from 1923 that once worked as a filling station, complete with a gas pump. It stands on Fourth Street, which carried US 66 through Bristow, and its design borrows from the Renaissance Revival style. Added to the National Register in 1995, it sits steps from two other historic auto buildings, which makes Bristow an easy stop for gas-station fans.

What is Bristow Tire Shop?

This is a modest roadside business building from the early motoring years. Despite the tire shop name, its historic role was as a filling station, and a gas pump out front served passing cars. Its styling nods to the Renaissance Revival, a look borrowed from classical European buildings.

Its location matters as much as its looks. Fourth Street was the Route 66 alignment through Bristow, and the Texaco Service Station, built the same year, stands only a block or so away on the same street. The two buildings joined the National Register in the same year, 1995.

Visiting Bristow Tire Shop: tips

Its current use is not known, so view it from the sidewalk and respect the property. Ten minutes is enough for photos.

The Texaco Service Station is about 0.1 miles away and the Bristow Firestone Service Station about 0.3 miles away, so all three historic auto buildings fit into one short walk. Gas and a fast-food stop are both about a block away if you need a break.
