Camp Clover Ranger Station is a small group of Forest Service buildings in Williams, AZ, about a mile off the old road. Civilian Conservation Corps crews put it up in 1934 to a Forest Service design, and the whole compound earned a National Register listing for its architecture. For a Route 66 traveler it is a quiet look at Depression-era public works on the western edge of Williams, a town that has plenty more history close by.
What is Camp Clover Ranger Station?
The station is not a single building but a compact working compound. Five buildings count toward the historic listing: the office, a residence, a combined barn and garage, a shed and a garage sized for one car. A corral completes the set, and everything sits on roughly 3 acres.
The buildings share a Bungalow/Craftsman look. The plans came from the USDA Forest Service itself, so the station shows the agency's own idea of a field post in the 1930s.
History of Camp Clover Ranger Station
The Civilian Conservation Corps built Camp Clover in 1934. Over the years the compound did double duty, serving both as staff housing and as government office space.
In 1993 the station was added to the National Register. The listing was made for its architecture, and it covers the buildings and the corral together rather than any one structure on its own.
