What is Williams Residential Historic District?

The district is a neighborhood of houses and a few public buildings, roughly framed by Grant and Fairview Avenues and by Sixth and Taber Streets. Its 130 contributing buildings date from the late 1800s to the mid-1900s and have kept much of their historic character. Some houses used ready-made millwork pieces, and several are the work of architect Orville Bell.

Two properties also have listings of their own: the Negrette House and the Methodist Episcopal church with its parsonage.

History of Williams Residential Historic District

The homes grew out of the original townsite and the Perrin Addition between 1890 and 1941. Notable buildings include the Methodist church and parsonage of 1891 on West Sherman Avenue, now known as Community United Methodist Church and listed separately in 1984, and the American Legion Clubhouse of 1936 on West Grant Avenue.

The C.E. Boyce House, built in 1890, also stands on West Grant Avenue. Cormick E. Boyce arrived in the Williams area in 1881 and is remembered as the town's pioneer merchant. The whole district joined the National Register on January 8, 1998.
