Roger Miller Museum
The Roger Miller Museum has closed; it shut for good at the end of 2017 after running short of funds. From 2004 it honored the singer and entertainer Roger Miller in his hometown of Erick, OK, in a 1929 building that once held a cafe and drugstore on Route 66. The building still stands downtown, less than a mile off the main route line, as part of Erick's small cluster of historic sites.
What is Roger Miller Museum?
The museum filled about 3,000 square feet where U.S. 66, named Roger Miller Boulevard in town, meets Oklahoma 30, named Sheb Wooley Avenue. It showed Miller's musical instruments, rare photographs and stage costumes.
History of Roger Miller Museum
The museum opened in 2004 inside the old cafe and drugstore building from 1929. Several times each year it raised money with local events, including a yearly street festival with a concert each late October. Funding problems forced it to close, and its final day was December 23, 2017. Most of the displays had been lent by Mary Miller, the singer's widow, and they went back to her once the museum shut.
Visiting Roger Miller Museum: tips
There is no museum to visit now, but fans of Roger Miller may still want to see the corner and the street signs that carry his name. It makes a short stop combined with the First National Bank building right nearby and the West Winds Motel, about 0.4 miles away. The ghost town of Hext is about 7 miles away.
