Listed on the National Register, it sits less than a mile off the main route line in the heart of Erick.
What is West Winds Motel?
An office and two wings of rooms form a U around a courtyard, the classic motor court plan. The wings are in Mission Revival style, finished in stucco and topped with red metal roofing made to look like tile. Each room has a private garage right in front of its door, a feature popular through the 1930s and 1940s that later went out of fashion.
History of West Winds Motel
The West Winds welcomed its first Route 66 guests in the mid-1940s. At that time tourism was the backbone of Erick's economy, and it was one of several motels in town. It joined the National Register on May 27, 2004.
