Max J. Anderson House

Also listed as the J. Max Anderson House, the Max J. Anderson House is a 1927 stone home in Kingman, AZ, right in the downtown area the old road passes through. Built of native stone in a revival style, it is one of just six homes of its kind in Kingman. It joined the National Register in 1986 and adds a residential chapter to a Route 66 walk around the town's historic core.

What is Max J. Anderson House?

The house belongs to Kingman's historic district and was designed in the revival styles popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Its walls are native stone, a building method shared by only a handful of Kingman homes; there are six of them in all.

Its next-door neighbor is the House at 527 Pine, and the same builder most likely put up both.

History of Max J. Anderson House

The house dates from 1927. Its first owner may have been Mary E. Cohenour, though that is not certain. A 1985 survey of 63 historic sites in Kingman looked at the house, and that study led to its National Register listing in 1986 along with many of its neighbors.

Visiting Max J. Anderson House: tips

This is a private home, so view it from the street or public sidewalk and respect the owners' privacy. A few minutes is enough. The old United States Post Office and the Van Marter Building are both right nearby, and the Bonelli House museum is about a tenth of a mile away.
